Adoption and Immigration
Prospective Adoptive Parents in Canada should be aware that new immigration legislation makes it an offence for anyone other than an authorized representative to advise you on an immigration matter. This means adoption practitioners and employees of adoption agencies are not authorized to provide guidance on the best immigration stream, i.e. citizenship or Permanent Residence for an internationally adopted child, complete/ submit immigration forms, and more.
Prospective Adoptive Parents are also at risk of having Canadian Immigration (CIC) refuse their (adoptive child’s) PR or citizenship application, if CIC believes an unauthorized paid representative has assisted you at any stage of the application process. To read the details, please see: http://www.iccrc.ca/home.cfm (Public News section).
