Benin
World View can assist with the adoption process from Benin on a case by case basis via a one time license. We are currently assisting an Ontario couple with an orphan adoption.
Who Can Adopt
- Prospective parents whose homestudy has been approved by their provincial Ministry; (if you are a relative of the child you wish to adopt, please go to Relative Adoption.)
- Single prospective adoptive parents must be at least 35. The adoptive parent(s) must be at least 15 years older than the prospective adoptive child, or ten years older if it is the child of one’s spouse. The court can make exceptions.
- Adoptive parents must be either a couple who has been married for five years, the spouse of a biological parent, or an unmarried person who is at least 35 years of age.
- Adoptive parent(s) should not have any biological children, unless authorized by law, at the time the application for adoption is filed. (Previously adopted children are not a hindrance.)
Who Can Be Adopted
- A child whose biological parent(s) or the family council (a
representative group of family members that decides custody issues when the
parents are deceased or absent) have given consent; - An abadoned child;
- An orphan.
How to Adopt
The initial steps you must undertake may be found on our How to Adopt page.
Since Benin does not have a central adoption authority, adoptions are handled jointly by the Ministry of Family and Solidarity and the Ministry of Justice (the courts).
