India

This adoption program is open! Families and single females of Indian and non-Indian backgrounds are eligible to adopt. Adoptions from India are expected to increase greatly in the next 5 years.

The Indian government is enabling many more (than the current 72) Indian agencies to be a vehicle both domestic and intercountry adoption. In the next 5 years, up to 500 Indian local agencies may be linked. Further, all family dossiers must now be processed through the Indian authority centrally.

World View Adoption has been helping Canadian families adopt children from India since 2001. We had the pleasure of welcoming an Indian government delegation to Canada in June 2011 to hear first hand of the new Indian guidelines for international adoption.

How to Adopt

The initial steps you must undertake may be found on our How to Adopt page.

India is a signatory to the Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoption. The Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA), Ministry of Women and Child Development, Delhi is the central authority in India. CARA oversees the international adoption process, licenses Indian and foreign agencies, and approves each adoption case. World View is registered and approved by CARA as an Enlisted Foreign Adoption Agency (EFAA).

All adoptions from India will be finalized in India under the Juvenile Justice Act. The Non Relative (orphan) Adoption process from India requires adoptive parents to travel at least once. For current CARA Guidelines on adoption please visit  http://www.adoptionindia.nic.in/
